Defending your new base

So, you just started off on Nova, and now you are setting up your next base. How do you properly defend this base?

Since we're all around level 10 right now, the best way to do this is as following.

Step 1: Get your OS to the new base.
Step 2: Make sure you send a corvette with it.
Step 3: Build the base, give it a name, and go to the structures tab.
Step 4: Build 5 metal refineries, adding both urban structures and plants when needed.
Step 5: BEFORE building anything else, build 1 level of missile turrets. This will prevent you from becoming very profitable.
Step 6: Get some shipyards running, and build 3 fighters, at least.
Step 7: Build spaceports to start trading.

Step 7 can be done whenever you want it, but preferably as quickly as possible to increase your economy. You just have to make sure to follow the first 6 steps when building a new base. When you are a little bit further in the game, you can use a carrying unit, like a frigate, to bring fighters to your new base from the get-go.

What to do when I hit level 10?

You just started on a server, and you are about to hit level 10. Say bye-bye to your newbie protection. What do you do? Well, the answer is simple.

You become unprofitable.

So, you may ask, how am I supposed to do that? And what does unprofitable mean? You are unprofitable when your attacker needs to crush so much fleet on you that it is worthless to do so. If you would be profitable, you obviously are a valid target. So, how does one become unprofitable? And if you are planning on attacking someone, how do you know it is profitable?

Let's start with becoming unprofitable. To become unprofitable, you need just the right amount of base defenses in combination with fleet. When you hit level 10, you want to have some defenses up that will tear simple fleets apart, since players of level 15 are allowed to attack you. It is recommended to have at least 1 Missile Turret (5/5), preferably level 2 (10/10), and at least 1 fighter on your planet, adding a few with every level you grow. Make sure to always build 5 Metal Refineries on new bases, and immediately afterwards, build a level of Missile Turrets.

Congratulations! You are now unprofitable. That was easy, right?

Well, for some people it seems to be pretty hard. Look around for these people. If you catch them, you have yourself a profitable hit. These hits can get you a ton of credits early on. If you are lucky and you find targets like this, make sure to spend the money in the best way possible to quickly grow your empire.

Hello, and welcome to my first blogpost on the Astro Empires Guides and Tips blog. My name is Aviator and I've been playing Astro Empires on a regular base since the Beta server opened. From now on I will try to give you guys a in-depth view of the experience I have gained in the past years, and how you can use this in your advantage on the different Astro Empires servers.

I am currently playing on the new Nova server, that just started a few days ago. I currently am level 11,82 and I have an economy of 190. I am in the guild Mostly Harmless.
